Meet Artist Lindsay Ralph

We caught up with artist Lindsay Ralph from Newfoundland to learn more
about her art, inspiration and what "the spirit of the East Coast" means to her.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

My name is Lindsay and my photography business is Lindsay J Ralph
Photography. I grew up in the tiny town of Bloomfield, Newfoundland, and at 18
moved to St. John's to pursue a music degree. After completing my degree I
owned a private music studio for a year, spent another year thinking I wanted to
be a pharmacist, and now at 25 I have decided that photography is what makes
me happiest and is what I want to do with my life. It's been a long road to here!

When did you first find a passion for photography and what inspires your work?

I've had a camera in my hand since I was a little girl, I remember owning a little
pink Barbie point and shoot film camera as my first, slowly getting better cameras
as I got older. I was always a very nature, Newfoundland, landscape-inspired
photographer (I LOVE shooting lighthouses) but this past year I took up
photographing people and that's where I've discovered my love really lies. People
being silly, candid, and in love.

What are some of the biggest challenges you face as an artist?

Some of the biggest challenges I face as an artist is finding my own unique style I
think, but I'm slowly getting there and finding a style of shooting and editing that
works for me.

What other East Coast creator(s) inspire your work?

Some East Coast creators who's photography I love are Alex Cude
(@seriouslyalexa) & Kara O'Keefe (@karaokeefe), I think they've both done such a
wonderful job at finding a style that's unique to them!

What is your favourite East Coast location to shoot? Why?

My favourite East Coast location to shoot is really anywhere near the ocean, it
feels like such a huge part of my identity and I love incorporating it into my work.

What does "the spirit of the East Coast" mean to you?

To me, "the spirit of the East Coast" means warmth, hospitality, intimacy, and

What would be your dream spot to shoot some photos?

My dream spot to shoot is Iceland!

Favourite singer or band?

Favourite singer/band overall is so tough to choose so I'm going to go with a
fellow Newfoundlander and say Tim Baker, definitely one of my top favourites.

Favourite pizza toppings?

Extra extra cheese :)

Hidden talent?

Not really a hidden talent, but most people who've met me over the past few
years have no idea that I'm a classically trained flute player!
